What is Destinations?

The Destinations Career Academy is an innovative online program that combines traditional academics with industry-relevant, career-focused electives—giving students a jump-start on their college and career goals. While working toward their high school diplomas, students can choose from a variety of courses in these high-demand career fields: Business, Health and Human Services, and Information Technology. Licensed teachers provide live online instruction and tailor teaching to student needs. Students can participate in career-oriented clubs, gain workplace skills, and prepare to take industry-recognized certification exams in their chosen career path upon graduation.*

Destinations Career Academy at K12 Private Academy also offers part-time enrollment in our career pathways. Complement your student’s local high school schedule with career exploration at Destinations and put them on a path to success. Whether they're headed for college, career, or both, Destinations students can gain practical skills and prepare for industry-relevant certifications, all while working toward their high school diploma in their current school district.

Other certificates require more classes to be better prepared, and students who participate in the Destinations Career Academy for at least two years will have further exposure to career readiness education courses to be prepared for certification testing.

  • General Management—This pathway prepares students to lead and manage others, improve processes and policies, and manage a range of personnel issues and concerns while focusing on the bottom line.
  • Marketing Communication—This pathway prepares students to plan, coordinate, and implement marketing strategies, advertising, promotion, and public relations activities.

  • Medical Billing and Coding —This pathway prepares students to manage patient data and information, financial information, and use computer applications related to health care processes and procedures.

  • Game Design and Programming—The Programming and Gaming pathway prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills to support the design and development of software, game, and simulation applications; interpret process and data models; develop and structure programs and software; and validate the functionality, usability, and reliability of those components.
